Bella Goose Coffee is the kind of place that makes you rethink what a cafe in a tourist town can be. Tucked away in Wisconsin Dells, this spot is serving house-made syrups, made-to-order spelt waffles, and biscuits and gravy so good you'll question every other cafe you've ever visited.

Dual La Marzocco espresso machines behind the bar. Maple-glazed breakfast sausage that shines. And an atmosphere that transitions from electric weekend energy to a peaceful weekday work spot. That's what you'll find at Bella Goose Coffee. But if you can spare a few more minutes, let me tell you why this place deserves a spot on your must-visit list.

Process

Parking in the lot is free. Head straight in where you will order at the counter. To the left there is a case for pastries.

The abbreviated coffee menu is on the wall behind the register. You're going to want to grab a paper menu from the counter or take a peek online before you come. Trust me on this. The full menu has options you don't want to miss.

Once you order you can take your table number and find a nice spot to relax.

Drinks come up at the bar near the register and food is delivered to your table.

Done with your breakfast or lunch? Here, you can leave it at the table and head out.

Coffee and Treats

They have weekly specialty items but they seem to sell out quickly. Some creative offerings like the blood orange vanilla latte which had blood orange vanilla syrup and is topped with black salt. The creativity here is real.

We went with the butter pecan latte and the vanilla matcha. The butter pecan was awesome. Subtle enough to give you the impression of the butter pecan and not too sweet at all. The house-made syrups really shine here. When a cafe takes the time to make their own syrups, you can taste the difference.

The vanilla matcha was awesome. We opted to add a bit of whip cream to the top. The flavor of the matcha was great and the vanilla added just the right touch of sweetness. A really refreshing option for any time of year.

For kids they have hot chocolate and some smoothie options as well as some juices in the little fridge near the front door.

Food

They have a full food menu. We tried out the grilled cheese and tomato basil soup, sausage breakfast sandwich, and biscuits and gravy.

The biscuits and gravy was insane. The sausage was wildly good and it had just the right amount of spice and the gravy was perfect. The biscuits were fresh and had just the right crumble. I have legitimately never had biscuits and gravy this good at a cafe. That's not hyperbole. These were exceptional.

The grilled cheese was great. The cheddar garlic bread toasted nicely and properly stuffed with melty cheddar and Gouda. Sometimes you just need a really good grilled cheese, and this one delivers.

The sausage breakfast sandwich was incredible. The maple-glazed breakfast sausage really shined here. And they use a maple butter here as an added bonus. How cool is that? These are the kinds of details that separate good cafes from great ones.

Lastly, waffles play a big part of the menu here with a whole section dedicated to them. They are all spelt waffles. The classic waffle comes with strawberries, blueberries, pecans, homemade granola, and real whipped cream. The waffles are all made to order and look delicious.

Seating

There are about a dozen or maybe fourteen tables throughout the entire restaurant. They vary in size between two and four tops.

We came at noon on a Saturday and it was incredibly busy. We were lucky enough to have found a table by the time it was our turn in line. If you're coming on a weekend during tourist season, be prepared for a wait or arrive early.

Atmosphere

I can see Bella Goose being an awesome place to get some work done during the week when it sees a little less weekend traffic.

This weekend day the cafe was electric. A packed house full of laughter and chatter. Folks swinging in from the resorts before they hit the pool for the rest of the afternoon.

The music covers any gaps in chatter.

As 1pm started to roll around the cafe started to relax and you could really begin to feel just how special this environment really is. The weekend rush energy is fun, but there's something about that quieter moment when you can appreciate the care that goes into this place.

Service

Service is really good. More than happy to answer any questions that you have while ordering. The drinks come up quick. The food took a few minutes but this was just fine as it helped reinforce the fact that everything is fresh and made to order.

They had at least three or four employees behind the bar whipping up the beverages and a bunch of other employees behind the scene cooking up the incredible food and ensuring everything runs smoothly.

To keep up with service they're running dual La Marzoccos behind the bar. When you see a cafe investing in that level of equipment and staffing, you know they're serious about what they're doing.

Summary

We have been to the Wisconsin Dells many times over the last ten years since moving to Wisconsin.

There is not another place in the county that can compare to what Bella Goose is doing.

There are options, of course, but when you factor in the quality of the ingredients and attention to detail that this joint has, you will be hard pressed to experience anything better.

The house-made syrups elevate every drink. The butter pecan latte delivers subtle sweetness without being overwhelming. The vanilla matcha is refreshing and perfectly balanced. The biscuits and gravy are legitimately the best I've had at a cafe. The maple-glazed breakfast sausage on that sandwich shines with maple butter as a bonus. The grilled cheese hits that comfort food spot perfectly.

The dual La Marzocco setup behind the bar shows they're committed to quality espresso. The made-to-order spelt waffles demonstrate they're not cutting corners. The weekly specialty drinks prove they're constantly innovating.

The atmosphere shifts throughout the day. Electric and packed on weekend mornings with resort guests fueling up before hitting the pool. Relaxed and peaceful as the afternoon rolls in, perfect for getting some work done or just enjoying your coffee.

Stop by Bella Goose the next time you find yourself in the Dells. Whether you're looking for exceptional coffee, creative specialty drinks, or the best biscuits and gravy you'll find in a cafe, this place delivers on every level.

I paid for this meal myself. All opinions are my own.
